Under the Patronage of H.E. Shaikh Rashid Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa (Undersecretary of Passports & Immigration Directorate), Albareh Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of On the Road, a solo exhibition of the latest works of award-winning Bahraini artist Zuhair Al-Saeed at its Adliya premises.
In On the Road, Al Saeed reflects on the message of his 2013 exhibition, B+, which was a lyrical mediation on Adonis's, 'You say that the world is dark, but look around you. Don't you see that wherever you go, this darkness is full of light? It's not about seeing the darkness; it's about discovering the light.'
More than two years on, Al Saeed revisits his message of unbounded optimism in his latest solo show, a grittier, more mature body of work where the artist has come to a realization that the journey is fraught with difficulty. This time round, he acknowledges the need for perseverance, with a defiant protagonist who emerges successful but battle-scarred.
This is nowhere more apparent than in the choice of materials that Al Saeed incorporates into his art with worn tires competing for space with other found objects.
Born in Bahrain in 1980, Zuhair Al Saeed belongs to a younger generation of up and coming Bahraini artists. His art is inspired by social and environmental issues and he describes his work as being rooted in his everyday reality. He studied fine arts at the University of Bahrain and his work has been showcased at different venues in Bahrain, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar and the UAE. His works have been collected by the Bahrain National Museum, HSBC Bank, the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kuwait.
Al Saeed is the winner of the 2008 Zain Dream Innovation Initiative, and in October of this year, he received the Palme d'or at the Visual Arts Forum in Doha, Qatar.
