Omar AlShahabi is an Iraqi-born artist who lives and works in Qatar. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Baghdad University, where his early formation laid the foundation for a practice that has since developed across regional and international contexts.
Over the years, AlShahabi has established a consistent exhibition presence, with numerous solo shows across the Middle East. His recent exhibitions include presentations at Katara Art Center (Doha, 2023), Al Markhiya Gallery (Doha, 2022), and Anima Gallery (Doha, 2019). Earlier solo exhibitions were held at the Qatar Society of Fine Arts (Doha, 2014), Foresight Art Gallery (Amman, 2013), the French Cultural Center (Damascus, 2007), and Broadway Gallery (Amman, 2005), reflecting a sustained engagement with both Gulf and Levant art scenes.
In addition to his solo practice, AlShahabi has participated in numerous group exhibitions. His work has been shown in Doha at institutions and venues such as Al Hosh Gallery, Anima Gallery, Al Markhiya Gallery, and Katara, as well as the Qatar Society of Fine Arts. Internationally, he has exhibited in Baghdad and Amman, including shows organized by the Iraqi Ministry of Culture and Broadway Gallery. These exhibitions trace a trajectory that connects his early beginnings in Iraq with his ongoing practice in Qatar.
Through a career spanning over two decades, AlShahabi has maintained an active role within the contemporary art landscape, contributing to a dynamic dialogue between his Iraqi roots and his current environment in the Gulf.
