Albareh Art Gallery is pleased to invite you to Booth M2  at Art Dubai Modern located in Madinat Jumeirah

Albareh will present the works of two  leading Bahraini artists Rashid Al Khalifa and Nasser Al Yousif, in a unique exhibition, focusing on Modern art from the Middle East. The Modern section of Art Dubai will feature artists whose body of works has made a difference during the 20th century and beyond.

The works of these two Bahraini artists were chosen as they represent two significant periods in Bahraini art movement – the 70s for Al Yousif and the 90s for Al Khalifa.

The booth will showcase works from Al Khalifa’s abstract period of the 1980’s through to the 1990’s in several large, colorful canvases, some of which have never been shown before. The selection will also include also some landscape artworks from the 80’s, Sketches in gouache, pen and charcoal, as well as smaller abstract paintings.

Together with Al Khalifa’s works are Linocuts selected from the prolific period of Nasser Al Yousif (b.1940-2006), showcasing his interest in developing authenticity of artistic expression in the Gulf region. These works represent his most famous and most emotionally impactful collections. It tackles the subject of popular traditions, which took place on the shores of his native island, Muharraq.

The pairing of these two artists is a glimpse into their practices that reveals not only their technical mastery, but decades of conceptual refinement and research in laying the foundations of an art that is contemporary and global. It ties them closely to the central theme of “Dubai Modern”, clearly asserting their place amongst the pioneering figures in the art of a region whose legacy of artistic expression began towards the end of the 20th century. It also aims to present to the fair’s international audience of specialists and collectors, the wealth of Modern art from the Arabian Gulf.
