PRESS RELEASE

Wanderings...

Faika Al Hassan

Albareh Art Gallery is pleased to present Wanderings, an exhibition of paintings by Bahraini artist Faika Al Hassan at its premises in Adliya, Bahrain on Tuesday, October 14th. The opening reception will be under the patronage of HE Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa at 7 pm, The exhibition will end on the 4th of November 2014.

Al Hassan's latest body of work is at once poignant and whimsical. Wanderings... is a play on words as much as it is a visual play, presenting itself to the viewer as paintings of neatly packed suitcases framed within the tight confines of an airplane window. Despite the overt travel reference, the journey is not a physical one. It is Al Hassan's own 'wanderings', her exploration of an inner world of memories, hopes and fears, an imaginary mindscape populated by little animals and little people spilling out of old fashioned luggage or draped over toy chairs as if awaiting the start of a concert. It is her own personal baggage that she invites the viewer to explore.

About the Artist

An economist by training, Al Hassan began her art career as a young expectant mother taking an art course at the Bahrain Arts Society. Since then, she has continued to explore and experiment with her art, charting a unique path distinct from that of other Bahrain artists. The recipient of the Bahrain Fire Art Exhibition Award at Bahrain National Museum (2007) and the Al-Saafa Prize for GCC Fine Art & Lines (2009), her work has been exhibited across the Gulf, in Australia, Syria, Yemen, the UK, Belgium, Italy, Jordan, France, Spain and Morocco.
